EAST SETAUKET, NY - MySmileGuide® has been selected by public schools and university programs to bring interactive oral health education to students.
Since 2009, MySmileGuide's web-based oral health program has been used by a number of schools and universities in Long Island, New York City, and Connecticut. The list of NY schools has grown to include:
- Clara Barton High School (Brooklyn, NY)
- Francis Lewis High School (Queens, NY)
- A number of schools in Suffolk County, NY including: Ward Melville High School, Gelinas Junior High School, Murphy Junior High School, Riverhead High School RCSD, and William Floyd High School.
University programs that have used MySmileGuide®'s technology include:
- University of Connecticut: Schools of Dental Medicine, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy

Since its launch, many thousands of students have participated in MySmileGuide's interactive oral health education program. The online program provides a two-visit oral health assessment. Each student receives secure and personalized oral health information and targeted self-care health tips. At the conclusion of the programs, each school receives group reports. These group summary reports demonstrate changes in student group knowledge and behavioral health during the assessment period.

MySmileGuide® Founder, Dr. Fred Ferguson, receives
"Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence"
EAST SETAUKET, NY - The "Stephen H. Leeper Award for Teaching Excellence" is awarded each year to an individual who has shown innovation in teaching, and significant contributions to both dental education at their institution and to the entire dental education community. The award is a program of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society, which was established to promote and recognize scholarship and character in the field of dentistry and dental education.
Dr. Ferguson received a B.S. from the University of Maryland; his DDS from Howard University College of Dentistry; and his certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He began his academic career as an assistant professor in the Department of Children’s Dentistry at Stony Brook University, and attained the rank of full professor in 1993. Dr. Ferguson has serves as the Director of the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry. He is the recipient of numerous other honors and awards including the Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, the State of NY and United University Professionals Excellence in Community Service Award, the Faculty Excellence Award, The First Annual Governor’s Award to Afro-Americans of Distinction, and the President’s and Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Ferguson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
